The Renegades visited Brookwood School in Manchester MA. The first grade students and teachers got an opportunity to participate in a beep baseball clinic organized by coaches Gina and Ron, and player Joe McCormick. They created a hands-on experience down on the turf allowing the students to hit blindfolded off a tee, run to the base and track the ball’s location using their ears as they practiced fielding.
How it happened
The Renegades connected with Brookwood in September of 2025. First grade teacher Sarah Dawe came to a charity game and was interested in learning more about the sport. She has been teaching her students all about blindness, how members of the blind community adapt and navigate the world, and how sighted people can make the world more accessible for blind people. Sarah has this to say about the whole experience. “After attending a Renegades charity game over the summer and then the historic event at Fenway, I was so excited to introduce Brookwood students to beep baseball. They discovered that representation matters, sports can be and should be inclusive and equipment and rules can be modified to make the game safe and fun for everyone.”
Thoughts from the Event
One of the students also reflected on their time at the clinic. “It was so fun! It’s important to learn about beep baseball even if you can see because you can always lose your vision when you get older or you may have friends or family who are blind. People who are blind want to play baseball, too!” Thank you Boston Renegades, you have many new fans!”
Gina Devenish commented “It was a really great event. The kids and the adults had a blast. It’s nice to see that these teachers are taking the time to teach their students about the blind community.”

The Renegades gifted the first grade class a Beepball that was signed by Joe, Gina and Ron as a thank you for allowing them to visit and teach them about the sport. Brookwood also made a generous donation to thank the team for visiting. It was a great day overall and we hope to return to Brookwood in the future and continue teaching the youth all about this incredible sport.
