ABC Camp Independence, Confidence Building summer EXPERIENCE for Blind & Visually Impaired Youth July 19 to July 25

The Association of Blind Citizens (ABC) operates Camp Independence, a weeklong experience in Durham, New Hampshire for legally blind youth between the ages of 12-16. ABC is a not for profit, all volunteer, organization that provides programs and services for the blind and visually impaired community. This program is an outgrowth of our experience in operating camps for blind children since 2007. Participants will spend the week enjoying group activities that will enrich the way they experience their surroundings! The trainers will engage the students with activities to help them build self-confidence. The focus of this experience is music, featuring activities such as: chorus, musical trivia, critical listening, individual piano, or guitar lessons. Other activities being planned include archery, biking, team building, frisbee golf, swimming, watercrafts, group games and more. Musical entertainment with participant engagement and adaptive board games will fill the evening hours. This will be a week of learning about new and fun activities and a chance to meet new friends. The program will take place the week of July 19 to July 25, 2026. Transportation from Boston will be provided by ABC.

If the participant lives in Massachusetts, this camp experience is free this year. If the participants live in the other five New England states, the first 5 participants from each state will receive a full scholarship, the early bird tuition with partial scholarship is $500 when registering by March 24. If registration occurs by May 3 the tuition with partial scholarship is $750 and July 1 or later the tuition is $1000. The tuition covers all meals and snacks, activities, air-conditioned lodging, materials, and entertainment. Transportation is not included if you live outside the Boston area and is the responsibility of the parent or guardian. Agency purchase orders, corporate or nonprofit organization sponsorships, checks, credit cards are welcomed.
