The Renegades drove to Colts Neck, NJ to play three games for the Beast of the East title.  The first game would be against the host, New Jersey Titans.  The second game would be against the Long Island Bombers and the final game would depend on the results of the first two as the Renegades had hopes of playing to win the Beast of the East title.

Renegades bust out against the Titans

Game three of the season would pit the Renegades against the New Jersey Titans.  In 2023, Boston beat the Titans by just one run in a heated game in Woburn, Mass.  That game had some drama that included two umpires being removed from the game and the game ending on a missed base by the Titans.  The Titans finished 7th at the World Series and the Renegades 5th.  Boston had a target on its back.  To add to the drama, the game would be in Colts Neck, New Jersey or a home game for the Titans.

On a windy day with temps in the 70’s and fields with some thick grass, the teams would face off.  Ron Cochran would be the only pitcher for Boston in this contest as Peter Connolly was unavailable.  That also meant Gina Devenish would pair with Bryan Grillo to call this match

First inning

The Renegades lost the coin toss and Shawn Devenish would lead off for Boston.  He started things off with a fly ball into the deep layer of the Titans right side of the field and would score with ease.  Rob Dias would be next and do the opposite.  He hit a dribbler up the middle of the field and it was a foot race between Dias and Randy George.  As the ball rolled just past the forty foot arc, Dias would win this race.  Tyler Mireault was next and after fouling off two pitches  would strike out for the first time in his career (after 10 at bats of putting the ball in play).  Joe McCormick was next and would also strike out.  Chris Kimball drew the start and on the first pitch, lined a ball up the middle and Randy George was able to slide to his left and make the stop to end the inning.

Zach Turner would be the leadoff hitter facing his step father, Steve Dinome.  He would start the game off the same as the renegades with a fly ball into right field.  Chris Kimball moved to his left and then moved back to his right as the ball bounced twice in front of him, but Kimball was late to the ground and it scooted under his body for a run.  Marvin Morgan would go down on strikes.  Alfonso Harrell would get to three strikes and then hit a high fly ball up the middle.  This ball was as high as it was long.  Rob Dias and Guy Zuccarello moved to the center of the field.  The ball bounced with spin to Rob’s side and he made a clean pick to make the second out of the inning.  Lamont Bordley then hit a fly ball to the left side, another sky shot.  Rob Dias had one shot at it but after it bounced, Rob reached out two times for it and came up empty as Bordley scored to tie the game.  Damien Gonzalez then hit a grounder up the middle.  Guy moved to his right, Dias to his left and Devenish took a few steps forward, dropped, attacked the ball and made it look easy.  After one full frame, the score was tied 2-2

Second inning

Boston would go to the bench right away, as Joe Yee would hit for Guy Zuccarello.    Joe Yee would strike out for Cochran’s 3rd whiff of the game.  Shawn Devenish then laced a shot into left center field that screamed by three layers and rolled past the 170 line for his second run of the game.  Rob Dias then hit a line drive to the left side.  Alfonso Harrell laid out and it hit him, Dias raced to third and Dias got to the base before Alfonso could show possession.  Mireault hit a grounder to the left side that got past George and Harrell.  Tyler ran to first and missed the base with the base on his right and as he came back to hit it, Zach Turner grabbed the ball  for the second out of the inning.  After a torrid start to his career, Mireault racked up his first whiff and missed base in his first two trips to the plate on this day.  McCormick then hit a grounder that looked like it was going to be stopped by George, but George dove and it rolled past his feet and McCormick beat Harrell to the base for his first run of the game and the 4th run for Boston.  Chris Kimball was next and hit a slow grounder up the middle.  George over ran it but was able to recover and pick it up just before Kimball hit third base.  After one and a half, Boston led 5-2.

Corey Lloyd, a Titan rookie would lead off the inning as Elana Regan came into the game, replacing Joe Yee in the lineup.  Lloyd would go down on strikes, once again matching the Renegades first batter of the 2nd inning.  Turner was back at the plate and initially hit a grounder off Dinome’s legs for a dead ball.  With three strikes, he hit a bouncer up the middle. Dias slid to his left and over ran it.  Devenish slid to his right and it just got past him and his T-Rex arms.  Joe McCormick came a long way and over ran it and Shayne Cantan could not pick it before Turner hit third base. Four Renegades took a shot at it, but Turner’s ball alluded them all as that ball had eyes on it.  Marvin Morgan then hit a line drive to center.  Devenish slid two steps to his left and dropped to his right as the ball hit Shawn’s chest and Devenish recovered about 3 steps before Morgan reached first base.  A great play for Devenish!  Alfonso Harrel then hit a bouncer up the right middle of the field. Elana Regan did not take an angle and laid out and missed.  Chris Kimball slid over and dove, coming up short on it, but Shawn Devenish was there as the third layer of defense to make his second stop of the inning.  After two full innings, Boston led 5-3.

Third inning

Boston went back to the bench as David Sanchez came off the bench to hit for Elana Regan.  After hitting a bomb foul to left field, he went down on strikes.  Devenish was next and then hit a ball in the air to the left side.  Zach Turner could not make the play and Devenish had his third run of the game.  Rob Dias then hit the first pitch he saw up the middle on the ground.  Randy George stopped it with his chest for an easy out.  Tyler Mireault then hit the first pitch on a low line to the left side.  Zach Turner could not track it and it rolled past him as Mireault figure tipped third base for the run.  McCormick went back to the left side with a line drive that nobody could get and scored sliding into first base.  Chris Kimball was next as the Titans changed their defense.  Zach Turner and Harrell swapped positions.  Kimball hit a line drive at Turner who went down and the ball got under his arms as Kimball scored his first run of 2024.  With four runs in and a 9-3 lead, the Titans called a defensive time out.  When time convened, Sanchez blasted the second pitch he saw up the middle of the field past Lamont Bordley for a run.  Shawn Devenish would hit a bouncer up the middle, Randy George played it easily to end the bleeding for the titans.  Boston dropped a five spot and held a 10-3 lead after two and a half.

Guy Zuccarello would replace Sanchez and head back to the right side of the defense for Boston.  The Titans needed an answer and would huddle before coming to the plate.  Lamont Bordley fouled off the third pitch but whiffed on 4 pitches.  Gonzalez would repeat the pattern.  Wali Salahuddin would hit for Lloyd.  Wali would foul off three pitches and have a take and on the 6th pitch of the at bat would go down on strikes as the Titans struck out the side and racked up five for the game.  Boston would maintain a 10-3 lead.

Fourth inning

With a chance to do damage after a tough third inning for the Titans, Rob Dias would lead off.  The Titans subbed out Wali and brought in John Cruz on defense. Cruz would go to the right side of the defense in their deep layer.  Rob Dias would hit the second pitch down the first base line, looking for Cruz as the ball rolled down the first base line into right field for Rob’s third run of the contest.  Tyler Mireault was next and on the second pitch, hit a weak dribbler that just got over the 40 foot line and George stopped Tyler by a step as Mireault hit the base hard on the third base line.  McCormick then hit a fly ball off the top of his bat that landed short and when it hit the ground spun to the third base line.  George made a great play as he snagged it right before McCormick slid into third base.  Kimball then hit a grounder up the middle where George dove and missed and Bordley missed as Kimball slid safely into first base.  Joe Yee reentered the game for Zuccarello and hit a hard grounder up the middle that got past Bordley and Harrell as he scored running to third base. Devenish then hit the first pitch right at Turner while he ran to third base.  The ball rolled up Turner’s arm and he bobbled it and that gave Shawn time to reach the base for his fourth run of the game and the fourth run of the inning.  Rob Dias then hit a ball up the middle. George over slid it and Lamont Bordley also had it roll past his feet and Dias scored his 4th run of the game and the fourth run with two outs in this inning.  Mireault went back to the middle of the field with a fly ball at Bordley.  The ball bounced in front of him, but his speed was too much and Tyler had his 2nd run of the contest.  Luis Rodriguez came off the bench to hit for McCormick.   After fouling off a pitch, he hit a grounder right back up the middle at Bordley, He missed it, Cruz missed it and Rodriguez was safe.  The Titans called time out for the second time in the game.  Chris Kimball hit a grounder to the right side, Damion Gonzalez dropped and he batted the ball that rolled about 20 feet away from him to the line.  No chance to catch the speedy Kimball after that bobble and the renegades had their 8th run of the inning and 7th run with two outs.  That brought Shayne Cantan off the bench to hit for Joe Yee.  He hit the third pitch up the middle and Bordley stopped this one.  The 8 runs in this inning was one of the better innings in team history.  Only 30 times in team history have the Renegades scored 8 or more in an inning of play.  The score was 18-3.

In the bottom of the fourth, Zach Turner would lead off.  Elana Regan would also come back into the game to play up front on the right.  Turner lofted a fly ball to the middle. Regan went to her right and Dias went to his left.  The ball hit the ground and spun back to Regan’s side.  Neither of them could get the ball in time.  Weissman called time out to talk the play over as a coaching moment and to find out what happened on the play.  Marvin Morgan was next and hit a hard grounder right at Dias, who hit the ground late, Devenish raced to his right and missed it and Luis Rodriguez (who subbed in for McCormick), never hit the ground and Morgan had his first run of the game. Alfonso Harrell then hit a hard grounder to the left side.  Rob Dias ran over, but did not dive, giving direction to Cantan who had moved to play in the 2nd layer.  Cantan laid out and made the stop for the first out of the inning.  The Titans needed two more runs in this inning to get out of the 12-run rule.  Lamont Bordley struck out.  Damion Gonzalez was next and hit a ball right at Elana Regan.  She made a text book play taking one step to her left and diving to the right to make the play right on her belly button, perfectly lined up.  The Titans were on the 12-run rule.  Boston would not hit unless the Titans would tie it up.

Fifth inning

John Cruz would be the first batter of the inning and hit a grounder to the left side.  Dias sprinted to his right and slid feet first and stopped the ball in his gut.  Not a text book play, but it was made fast and efficiently for the first out.  Turner then hit a flare off the end of his bat up the middle. Regan was slow to the middle, but Dias was there fast and made the play and stopped Turner for the first time of the game.  Marvin Morgan struck out to end the fifth and Boston kept an 18-5 lead.

Sixth inning

Boston went to the bench and Melissa Hoyt came into play the middle of the field, giving Devenish a breather.  The Titans brought Sam Mischler off the bench to hit for Harrell.  She went down on strikes.  Lamont Bordley struck out for the third straight time.  Lloyd came back into the game and it a weak liner to the left side.  Rob Dias would make the play in time and the game was over.

Wrap up

Boston would win 18-5 in a 4 inning 12 run rule.  The players of the game would be Shawn Devenish and Rob Dias.  They both went 4-5.  Rob had 4 stops in the field and Shawn had three.  Between the two of them, they represented 7 of the 9 defensive stops and 8 of the 18 runs.  Cochran, who got off to a slow start would only strike out 4 hitters in 30 at bats.  That 13.3% rate was the 29th best performance in 297 games in Boston history!

 

Renegades handle the Long Island Bombers

The Renegades moved fields to play the Long Island Bombers.  The conditions continued to be windy and the field was still on the slow side.  For the Renegades, Ron Cochran would be pitching to Rob Weissman and Bryan Grillo and Gina Devenish would be the defensive spotters for the game.  The Renegades would be the home team in this contest.

First inning

With Matt Galante on the mound for the Bombers, the game started at a very fast pace.  Joe DeJesus hit the second pitch of the contest to the right side.  Elana Regan moved to her right, dove and came up short, Tyler Mireault hit the ground and moved quickly on the ground but it went just under him and Luis Rodriguez was slow to get the ball up and DeJesus was on the board for Long Island. Alex Barrera then came up hitting right handed and hit the first pitch up the middle, Devenish took a few steps in and dropped and made the play, a nice and aggressive play from Devenish.  Alvin Suarez then hit the third pitch of the at bat off the end of the bat on the fly up the middle.  Regan slid over without taking an angle on the ball and it was over her head.  Dias and Devenish arrived at the ball at the same time and Dias got the ball up in time for the second out.  John Gilroy then hit the first pitch to the left side, Dias missed it and was going backwards calling for help from Shayne Cantan.  Cantan dropped to his knees and was very slow to get the ball up, but Gilroy was slow down the line, giving Cantan the out.  Long Island led 1-0 after the top half of the first.

Shawn Devenish would lead off for Boston and with three strikes would launch a deep fly ball to centerfield.  Alvin Suarez was playing deep and it bounced right in front of him three times and he picked it up and the umpire called safe.  To the dismay of the Long Island callers, they contested the play and the call was over turned in their favor. Rob Dias then hit a grounder to the left side.  Puvogel made a nice play quickly to make the stop.  Tyler Mireault then hit a ball close to where Devenish hit it.  Alvin Suarez had to come in on it a step or two, but he didn’t and held his ground.  Mireault was able to score to tie the game.  David Sanchez would be next as the DH and after fouling off two pitches and hitting a grounder off Ron’s body, he would strike out to end the inning.  After one frame, the score was tied 1-1.

Second inning

Matt Puvogel would lead off for Long Island and would go down on strikes for the first strike out of the game.  Edgar Erickson, hitting from the right side, hit a bouncer to the right side.  Elan Regan took a few steps in and to her right, she hit the ground and reached out her left hand and the ball went right into her outreached palm for the second out of the inning.  Joe DeJesus would strike out to end the inning for the Bombers.

Luis Rodriguez would lead off for the Renegades as the starting rover in this contest.  On the third pitch of the at bat, he hit a hard grounder down the third base line.  Puvogel moved to his right dove and the ball went off him.  He was able to quickly move on the field and recover before Rodriguez got to third base.  Shayne Cantan was next and hit a weak grounder to the left side.  Puvogel was able to come in on the ball and made the stop with ease before Cantan was close to the third base bag.  Devenish was next and it a hard grounder to the left side.  Puvogel missed it and as DeJesus was about to make the play, Devenish missed first base and DeJesus made the stop in left field.  The Renegades went 1-2-3 and the score was 1-1 after two innings.

Third inning

Alvin Suarez started things off with a ball hit to the right side.  Regan didn’t go down on the hit and called direction to the second layer, Mireault dove and missed it and Devenish also hit the ground and had to get back up and chase it down.  It took too long and Suarez was safe with the go ahead run.  John Gilroy was next, the big lumbering right hander hit a shot into left field.  Cantan slid to his left and missed it, Luis Rodriguez came charging in to his right and over shot it and was late to the ground and Gilroy gave the Bombers a 3-1 lead.  Puvogel then hit a grounder to the left side.  Dias slid feet first and didn’t pick it clean till the third try, but the speed at which he got to the ball gave him plenty of time to nail Puvogel.  Edgar Erickson was next and he hit another weak grounder to the right side.  Regan dropped to the ground and stopped it clean for the end of the inning.

Rob Dias would wake the Renegades up at the dish with a hard grounder up the middle.  Suarez ran to his left when the ball was hit at him, by the time he figured it out, it was by him and Dias scored.  Tyler Mireault then laced a grounder to the right side and scored to tie the game.  David Sanchez hit a weak grounder to the left and he took a perfect line to first, running one of his best bases and scored.  That was three pitches and three runs for Cochran.  Luis Rodriguez would break that streak of first pitch hits, getting the count to three strikes before lofting a fly ball foul.  He then hit a fly ball up the middle.  Edgar Erickson hit the ground and Alvin Suarez was too deep and with Luis’ speed, he scored the fourth straight run.  Shayne Cantan was next.  He went down on strikes.  Shawn then had a long at bat.  After fouling off four straight pitches to his catcher he laced the 6th pitch on a line past Suarez in deep center for a run.  Rob Dias, who started off the inning then lined a low hard hit to the left side.  Puvogel dropped and knocked it straight to the ground with his chest and picked up the ball cleanly for a fast defensive out.  Mireault hit a line drive into left field.  He was flying down the line as DeJesus gave chase, Joe dove and picked it up on the 2nd try, which was a split second too long for the speedy Mireault.  Sanchez would end the inning with a strike out on a 7 pitch at bat.  Boston plated six runs in the inning to take a 7-3 lead after three frames.

Fourth inning

Joe DeJesus led off with a slow grounder to the right side.  Regan took 2 steps to her left and hit the deck as the ball went inches by her feet and came to a stop in front of Mireault.  Tyler could not find it in time to beat the speedy DeJesus and Joe was 2-3 on the day.  Alex Barrera then hit a cue ball off the end of the bat that had a ton of spin on it.  It landed up the middle and spun to the right side.  Regan attacked it but over slid it and by the time she could recover and pick out up Alex was safe at third.  Suarez then hit a line drive at Dias.  Dias dove and it bounced over him but Shayne Cantan was right there waiting for it and made the play.  Gilroy then hit a dribbler off the bottom of his bat which sent Dias charging in to make the out.  Puvogel struck out to end the inning.  Long Island pulled within two to make it 7-5.

Luis Rodriguez fouled four straight pitches back to his catcher and then went down on strikes.  Chris Kimball then entered the game, hitting for Shayne Cantan.  Kimball hit a grounder to the left side that got past Puvogel and would score with his speed running to third base.  Devenish then blasted a shot into centerfield for an easy run that went past Suarez.  Rob Dias then hit a bouncing grounder right at Edgar Erickson.  The ball went under him but he was able to roll over and recover the ball before Dias hit third base.  Tyler Mireault then hit a grounder to the left side.  Puvogel, Wood and DeJesus came up empty trying to find it and Mireault had his 4th run of the contest.  Sanchez then blasted a high fly ball to left field and scored.  Luis Rodriguez was next, for the second time in the inning.  He hit a weak grounder up the middle.  Puvogel dropped near his spot which was the wrong place.  The ball was far to his left.  He crawled to it, but Luis was too fast and scored.  The inning would end with a Chris Kimball strikeout.  A five run inning would make it 12-5 after four innings.

Fifth inning

Boston would make defensive changes in this inning as guy Zuccarello would replace Dias at left shorty.  Joe Yee would go to third base, replacing Chris Kimball.  Edgar Erickson would lead off with a weak grounder to the left side.  Zuccarello was tested immediately and made the play with ease for the first out.  Joe DeJesus then hit a grounder up the middle of the left side.  Guy didn’t take a good angle at it and called for help.  Devenish charged it and over ran it going feet first as the ball squired under him as DeJesus scored.  Alex Barrera then hit a fly ball that landed just behind Guy Zuccarello and in front of Shawn Devenish.  Joe Yee also slid to his left and Bryan Grillo found himself with no place to go but up.  Yes, up!  He jumped over Devenish.  Devenish could not pick it clean and Barrera  scored.  Alvin Suarez then hit a fly ball to center and Elana Regan ran to her right while Devenish took a few steps forward and made a clean play to make the stop.  Gilroy would end the inning with a roller down the third base line as Zuccarello slid over to make the stop with plenty of time.  Long island had pulled within 5 down 12-7.

Shawn Devenish would lead off in the fifth and on the second pitch hit a weak ball off the bottom of his bat that just rolled over the forty foot arc.  Puvogel was able to charge it and make the play look easy.   Joe Yee then hit a grounder up the middle where Erickson and Puvogel gave chase in the middle.  Yee slowed down as he got to third and that was the difference in this being a hit as he was stopped by a split second by Puvogel who laid on his stomach with the ball.  Mireault then laced a line drive up the middle.  Alvin Suarez lined it up and made a nice play to end the inning.  Boston went down 1-2-3.

Sixth inning

Melissa Hoyt would sub in to replace Devenish at Mid field.  Shayne Cantan would reenter, replacing Mireault in the field to kick off the sixth inning as Boston clung to a five run lead.  Puvogel would start the inning off striking out for the third time in the game.  Erickson was next and had the same result for his first whiff of the game.  But that came after he hit a one hopper right back at his pitcher, matt galante who fielded the ball, like it was batting practice.  Galante was shocked he did this and laughter ensued from both sides.  Joe DeJesus was next and the Renegades would go into a pull heavy shift for him.  Weissman called for Cantan and Yee to switch layers right before the defense was finished setting.  Joe sent a grounder right into the shift.  Regan dove and missed it by a fingertip.  Cantan hit the ground and made the play to end the inning and the game.  Boston defeated the Bombers for the 25th straight time, but this was much closer than Boston wanted it to be.

Wrap up

The players of the game were Tyler Mireault who scored 4 runs and Shayne Cantan who made four stops on defense.  The surprise of the game was the fact Matt Galante had just five strike outs in 25 at bats, as this was his best performance against Boston in his career.

Beast of the East Title Game

The Philly fire escaped a battle with New Jersey that almost put the Beast of the East in a three way tie with all three teams at 3-1.  However, Philly hung on to win that battle 12-11.  The Renegades moved across the field.  Boston needed to win by two to win the title as they dropped the first game by the score of 16-15.  Philly would win the coin toss.  For Boston, Bryan Grillo and Gina Devenish would call and Ron Cochran would be the only pitcher.

First inning

Shawn Devenish would start things off by hitting a bouncer off Ron’s back side.  Shawn would foul one more off in the at bat and would swing and miss three times for the first out.  Tyler Mireault then hit a hard grounder right at Tyler Rodriguez who absorbed the ball for the second out.  Joe McCormick hit the second pitch in the air with a lot of english on it and Tyler Rodriguez did a great job to track it down to nab McCormick as the Renegades went down 1-2-3.

Justin Rhines would lead off for Philly after recovering from knee surgery.  He hit the first pitch on a bounce off his pitcher, Pat Krause, just as Devenish did on the first pitch.  On the third pitch, he hit a weak ball to the right side, Zuccarello slid to his right and the ball looked like it took a bad hop as it hit guy’s shins and ricocheted away from him toward the line.  He laid on the ground calling for help but there was no help available as Kimball was deep and behind him.  Rhines scored with ease.  Tyler Rodriguez would strike out.  John Margist also struck out, which means if not for the error on Zuccarello, the Renegades would be out of the inning.  Instead, Scott Hogwood hit a laser into left field.  Chris Kimball was back there and knocked it down but he could not get a handle on it till Hogwood hit the bag.  A nice attempt by Kimball, but he needed to pick it cleaner for the out.  Cesar Lezcano then hit a slow grounder to the left side, it went under Dias’ left arm as he was late to the ground.  McCormick was backing the play up and the very same thing happened to him as the Renegades had two errors on the play.  Dakota Hogwood would strike out to end the inning as Philly gave Boston three gifts to start the game.

Second inning

Chris Kimball would start things off in similar fashion to the Renegades first inning, with a strike out.  Rob Dias then hit a ball that hugged the third base line as Tyler Rodriguez over ran it, then over ran it again as it appeared he struggled to hear to with third base going off and Dias got the squad on the board.  Luis Rodriguez entered the game to hit  for Guy Zuccarello.  Luis hit a hard bouncing grounder to the left side.  Tyler Rodriguez had trouble lining it up and it rolled past him giving Luis a the run.  Devenish then hit a grounder up the middle.  Hogwood dove and missed it just falling short as it rolled by his out stretched hands.  John Margist came in behind him and made the out on a bang bang play.  Tyler Mireault then hit a weak grounder down the third base line and Tyler Rodriguez stopped him to end the inning.  Boston pulled with one to make the score 3-2

Justin Rhines would lead off for Philly but Boston would need to call time out as they only had five men on the field.  Chris Kimball was late to the field as he could not find his blindfold.  Rhines hit a weak liner up the middle.  Devenish held his ground, listened for the bounce and then came in on it.  He picked it clean but Rhines was too fast and was safe.  The only thing Shawn could have done better on this play was attack it from a lower stance.  Tyler Rodriguez then blasted a shot that bounced in front of Shayne Cantan and then bounced by him in deep left. John Margist took things to a full count, lofted a fly ball to left center.  Joe McCormick was on it, in fact he was on it so much it bounced off his face for a run. Scott Hogwood then hit the first pitch weakly to the left side. Dias charged it but it kicked off him to his right.  Dias was able to recover, pick it clean and Boston finally had an out in the inning.  Cesar Lezcano then lofted a fly ball on the third base line.  Dias came to the line as it bounced foul and he gave chase.  Lezcano was heading down the line in fair territory because his first step was to first base and STOP was called which may have prevented a big collision.  Initially, the play was called a run as Dias was in foul territory.  Weissman was quick to umpire, Jason Price.  The argument was how can someone be called safe on a foul ball. The call was changed. And the right call was made.  Lezcano would battle but strike out.  Dakota Hogwood would then hit a grounder to the right side.  Regan hit the ground and it just got thru her hands.  She was able to roll over and pick the ball up to end the inning.  Philly led 6-3 after two innings.

Third inning

Joe McCormick would lead off with a bottom of the bat dribbler to the left side.  Tyler Rodriguez would come in and make the play easily.  Chris Kimball then laced a ball to the left side.  Tyler Rodriguez hit the ground diving to his left and trapped the ball between his foot and the ground.  That took a sure run away.  Rob Dias then hit a line drive up the middle that bounced off John Margist.  Margist had to give chase with his number facing home plate as Dias scored.  This brought David Sanchez off the bench to hit for Regan.  He hit a hard grounder down the third base line and scored running well to first base.  Shawn Devenish then hit a grounder to the left side and Tyler Rodriguez would make the stop to end the inning.  Philly led 6-4 heading to the bottom of the third.

Justin Rhines would lead off for the third time.  He would hit a flare to the right side with a lot of spin on it.  Zuccarello hit the ground and called for help but the ball spun to the line and Kimball was too far away from the ball.  Guy hit the ground too early and the spin may have fooled caller, Gina Devenish. Tyler Rodriguez was next   And hit a hard low shot to left.  Dias had no chance, McCormick over ran it and Shayne Cantan had to give chase to his right and Philly quickly got the two runs back.  John Margist then crushed a high shot to center.  It bounced past Devenish and Shayne Cantan got on his horse to back him up, but he hit the ground a few steps early and Margist was safe.  Scott Hogwood then hit a hard grounder that got under Dias and then bounced off McCormick but Joe would make the stop in the second layer.  Cesar Lezcano then hit a bouncer to the right side.  Zuccarello was slow to the line and didn’t take an angle on it and it got by him.  He called for help but Kimball was too far away and as he got closer lost his aggressiveness and Cesar scored.  Dakota Hogwood was next and hit a ball past a diving Zuccarello and right to Kimball, the ball went off his mask, he stabbed at it and make the stop.  Play was stopped as Kimball was shaken up and Luis Rodriguez would be subbed in.  Justin Rhines would have his first at bat of the game, not leading off an inning.  He hit a grounder right at Zuccarello and he stopped it and it bounced off him a foot in front of him.  Zuccarello could not find it as the ball was  dead. He then hit a hard grounder up the middle that got past Devenish but Shayne Cantan was backing him up and made the stop.  The score was now 10-4.

Fourth inning

Boston needed an answer to keep this game close.  Tyler Mireault didn’t have it though as he went down on strikes for just the second time in his short career.  Joe McCormick then hit a hard bouncer to the left side that hopped over Tyler Rodriguez and McCormick scored.  Luis Rodriguez would come up next, as he replaced Kimball.  Rodriguez fouled off four straight pitches before striking out.  Rob Dias then hit a ball up the middle, hitting Ron in the rear side.  He then laced a shot to the left side that got out to the third layer of the Philly defense and scored.  Guy Zuccarello was next, staying in the game and laced a line drive up the middle that got by Scott Hogwood but John Margist backed him up for the out.  After three and a half, Philly led 10-6

Tyler Rodriguez led off and hit a fly ball on the third base line.  After one hop, it spun to the line away from him and he snagged the ball with one hand before it went foul and before Tyler hit the base.  Margist hit a towering pop to the left side, Dias ran in on it and it bounced five little times with spin before Rob could find it and Margist was safe.  Scott Hogwood then hit a grounder to the left side, Dias dove and it went by his hands, McCormick pursued and over ran it as it went by his feet and Shayne Cantan shifted over diving head first to make a clean stop. Cesar Lezcano then hit a ball down the third base line as third base went off.  Dias raced to the line as did McCormick but it hit McCormick and was kicked into fouled territory a long way and STOP was yelled again to prevent a collision between Lezcano and Dias or McCormick.  The inning would end with a Dakota Hogwood grounder to Rob Dias.  Philly went back up 12-6

Fifth inning

Boston needed to get it going.  Till this point the top three in the order were 1-9.  Devenish started it off with a grounder hugging the third base line.  Tyler Rodriguez slid feet first and was able to get it up before Shawn got to the base.  Mireault then hit a grounder up the middle and Tyler Rodriguez came running to his left, slid and stopped it in time as Scott Hogwood was already on the ground waiting for it.  McCormick then hit the second pitch hard to the left side that got to the third layer.  Rhines bobbled it, but McCormick missed first base, twice and was out.  Five pitches, three defensive stops and a missed base.  Not what the Renegades were looking for.

Justin Rhines would lead off the 5th looking to put the game away.  Rhines would go down on strikes.  Tyler Rodriguez then hit a fly ball right at Luis Rodriguez, he jumped two steps to his right when it was hit right at him, he then came back and didn’t hit the ground fast enough and Tyler won the battle of Rodriguez.  Margist and Hogwood would each whiff giving Philly 7 strikeouts on the day.  Philly led 13-6

Sixth inning

Luis Rodriguez hit the first pitch off the bottom of the bat to the right side.  Meghan Fink would take a few steps forward and make the play easily.  Rob Dias then hit the second pitch that died between Fink and Hogwood and Dias had his fourth run of the game.  Guy Zuccarello then hit the first pitch past a diving fink and a diving Hogwood and scored racing to third.  Could the top of the order help out?  Devenish fouled off the first pitch but then could not make contact.  Tyler Mireault then hit a grounder up the middle past a diving Tyler Rodrigues and Scott Hogwood and John Margist made the stop.  The Fire would win this game 13-8

Wrap up

For Boston, the player of the game would be Rob Dias who led the team in stops with three and runs with four.  Tyler Rodriguez was the player of the game with three runs and 8 stops on defense.
